Meet Beth Roberts, Our New President and CEO

Blue Cross VT CEO-Elect Beth-Ann Roberts

Following a two-month transition period, Beth Roberts officially takes leadership of Blue Cross VT.

With the start of the new year, we have a new leader at Blue Cross VT. Beth-Ann Roberts, MBA, has become our president and chief executive officer, taking over from Don George, who retired after 33 years of service, including 17 years as CEO.

Beth joins Blue Cross VT after having served as president of the Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network, a network of physicians, clinicians, and hospitals dedicated to improving population health and delivering high-quality, cost-effective care in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

Previously, Beth was President of Commercial Business at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a non-profit health services company with more than two million members. In this role, Beth strategically grew a $4 billion line of business to serve a broad portfolio of customers and led the successful union of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s and Tufts Health Plan’s commercial business as Point32Health. Earlier in her 20+ year career with Harvard Pilgrim, as Senior Vice President, Commercial Business, Beth led the organization to become the second-largest health plan in New Hampshire.

Beth was inspired to move to Vermont and accept her new role by the opportunity to improve the lives of Vermonters, including her son and his family who live here.

“Throughout my career, I've focused on understanding the nuances of health care in New England, becoming deeply embedded in the community, and developing both short- and long-term plans to improve affordability, access, and quality of care,” Beth says. “Vermonters care deeply about one another and their health care challenges are significant. There is real opportunity to improve the lives of Vermonters and the generations to come through health care reform, and I want to be part of the solution.”

Blue Cross VT’s mission to make health care work better for all Vermonters also appealed to her. “Blue Cross VT is embracing a bold vision of transforming the health system. We understand that health care is local and we’re helping to create solutions that recognize the pivotal role our communities serve in the transformation.”

Witnessing the challenges that her son and his family face in navigating the health care system and finding affordable, accessible care sparked her desire to get involved. “I continue to see, hear, and read how difficult and frustrating health care can be for Vermonters – and that signals a need for change,” Beth says. “In a small state, it requires all stakeholders to come to the table, ready to listen and collaborate, to identify effective and lasting solutions. I’m energized by this work and ready to roll up my sleeves in partnership with this team and leaders across the state to help do what’s needed.”

Beth holds an MBA from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University. She is a certified health insurance executive by America’s Health Insurance Plans. She’s also led and served on numerous nonprofit and community boards. An avid cyclist, runner, hiker, and boater, Beth enjoys the outdoors and is eager to further explore the Green Mountain State.
