Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont Enters Next Chapter as Beth Roberts Assumes Role of President and CEO
Following a two-month transition period, Beth Roberts officially takes leadership of Blue Cross VT.
Berlin, Vermont, January 12, 2026 — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross VT) today announced that Beth Roberts is President and CEO following a two-month transition period with outgoing President and CEO Don George.
Roberts joins Blue Cross VT from Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network, a clinically integrated network of physicians, clinicians, and hospitals. Her experience in this role and over thirty years working in health care has given her a strong understanding of the challenges facing providers and insurers. Roberts’ expertise in bringing people together and leading through complex challenges will be a key differentiator as she collaborates with Vermont health care providers, employers, regulators and legislators to make quality health care more affordable.
“I am excited for the work ahead as Blue Cross VT collaborates with all facets of the health care system to drive change. The health care problems in Vermont are significant, and it will require all stakeholders to come to the table to listen and collaborate to develop effective and lasting solutions,” said Roberts. “I am ready to roll up my sleeves with leaders across the state to make health care work better for Vermonters.”
In addition to prioritizing health care affordability, quality and access, Roberts will focus on Blue Cross VT’s continued financial recovery. “I’m proud of the work the organization has done so far to improve our financial position, but this is a marathon not a sprint. We must continue the hard work of managing operating and care costs on our way to full sustainability,” said Roberts.
Prior to leading Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network as President, Roberts held progressive leadership roles at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, where she led the organization’s expansion to become the second-largest health plan in New Hampshire.
Roberts holds an MBA from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University. She is a Certified Health Insurance Executive by America’s Health Insurance Plans. She’s also led and served on numerous nonprofit and community boards.
