Medicare Supplement insurance plans, such as Vermont Medigap BlueSM provide additional protection and peace of mind for those turning 65 and retiring.

- Keep your current health care providers: You can see any provider that accepts Medicare in Vermont and nationwide.
- No referrals: You don't need a referral to see a specialist or other providers.
- Local, personal support: You get the service you deserve from our award-winning, Vermont-based customer service team. When you call us with questions, you're talking to a neighbor who's committed to helping you through the process.
Add Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage
A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance plan does not include prescription drug coverage, but it is available to purchase separately. Question & Answers
Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) is an important 7-month window to enroll in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) for the first time and explore additional coverage options. It begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birthday month, and extends three months afterwards.
By signing up for Medicare Part B when you’re first eligible, you can avoid paying a late penalty. Plus, you’ll be able to enroll in a Vermont Medigap Blue plans of your choice before your birthday.
For more information on Medicare's late enrollment penalties, visit Medicare.gov.
Medicare Supplement insurance plans, like Vermont Medigap Blue, work with Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) to provide you with more complete coverage and protection. They help you cover the health care costs that Original Medicare leaves you responsible to pay.
Medicare Advantage plans (also called Medicare Part C plans) provide coverage through a specific network of doctors and hospitals that you may be required to use for your care. These plans cover the same services as Original Medicare, like hospital stays, provider visits, and medical supplies, and may include extra benefits.
If you're covered by a group health plan or your spouse’s group health plan and nearing your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), the size of the employer can impact when you need to enroll in Medicare.
Check with your or spouse’s employer about signing up when you’re first eligible for Original Medicare, during your IEP. Most times, you receive a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in Medicare after the employer group health plan ends, often 8-months.
Medicare Part A & Part B do not cover most prescription drugs. In most cases, you would need to purchase a separate prescription drug plan (Part D), such as our Blue MedicareRx prescription drug plans (Part D), to have coverage for your medications.
There are certain medications that may be eligible through your Medicare Part B. To learn what medications are covered through your Original Medicare benefits, visit Medicare.gov.
